\u201cDon\u2019t Escape Your Rights\u201d \u2013 A New Chapter in Youth Civic Engagement<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Across the rural regions of Southwest Bulgaria, a growing number of young people feel disconnected from civic life. Low voter turnout, limited understanding of democratic processes, and lack of trust in institutions reflect a wider sense of disengagement. The “Don’t Escape Your Rights”<\/strong> project takes this challenge head-on\u2014by turning civic education into an interactive, youth-led, and unforgettable experience<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Creative Approach to a Serious Issue<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The heart of the project lies in an innovative method: escape rooms. But not just any games\u2014these escape rooms are specially designed to simulate real-life democratic dilemmas, inviting participants to “solve” them using knowledge of voting, rights, and civic responsibility<\/strong>. By gamifying civic learning, the project creates a space where young people can connect with complex ideas in a meaningful, hands-on way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who Leads the Change? Youth Themselves.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The project will train 24 young leaders<\/strong> from four local schools to become Youth Active Ambassadors<\/strong>. Through a combination of non-formal education and peer-to-peer learning, these ambassadors will gain the tools to design and lead educational escape room campaigns<\/strong> in their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their mission? To make civic engagement not just understandable\u2014but relatable, exciting, and empowering<\/strong> for their peers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Classrooms to Communities: What Will Happen<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 Four school-based awareness campaigns<\/strong> will be led by the Youth Active Ambassadors between December 2024 and January 2025, using escape room events to reach dozens of their peers.
\u2013 A large-scale final event<\/strong> will gather 100 young participants<\/strong> for a civic-themed escape room experience that reinforces knowledge, reflection, and action.
\u2013 The project will also produce a practical digital guide<\/strong> on how to use escape rooms as a tool for civic education\u2014freely available for teachers, youth workers, and NGOs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What We Aim to Achieve<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The long-term vision of \u201cDon\u2019t Escape Your Rights\u201d is to reinvigorate youth interest in civic and political life<\/strong>\u2014especially in rural areas where opportunities for engagement are fewer. We aim to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 Raise awareness<\/strong> of democratic processes, voting rights, and civic responsibilities through engaging learning formats
\u2013 Empower youth leadership<\/strong>, with 24 ambassadors leading the way in their schools and communities
\u2013 Foster active citizenship<\/strong> by involving over 100 young people in simulated democratic participation experiences
\u2013 Create lasting tools and methods<\/strong> to inspire civic learning beyond the life of the project<\/p>\n\n\n\n
