In Romania in 2020 arrived 6000 refugees from: Syria, Afghanistan or Pakistan. This number was the highest number of refugees in one year which Romania received so far.
In 2019 arrived 4000 people and in the period between 2010-2018 arrived 2500 refugees in every year with one exception in 2017.
In 2017, Romania registered a number of 4,820 asylum applications. Of these, 549 people arrived on the Black Sea between August and November 2017. Compared to the figures for other years in which the average asylum application was around 1,500 per year, 2017 was an exception. Towards the end of 2017, the number of applications registered per month entered a downward slope and continued in 2018. Between January and June, 734 asylum applications were registered, mainly from citizens of Iraq and Syria. 1,234 people received protection from the Romanian state (they were granted refugee status).
In June 2018, there were 4,056 refugees in Romania (a figure representing the number of people with a valid residence permit).
We started in 2007 to receive refugees and the first organization who help their was UNCHR. One year later was opened another important organization: ETC(Emergency Transit Centre).
Since 1991 and until now, Romania has registered over 30,000 asylum applications and provided protection to 7,800 people
