Personal experience of Delia part of YE “Mission Youth Mental Health”

1. Motivation to join the project

I was motivated to join the Mission Youth Mental Health project mainly because of a personal need to connect more deeply with myself. I wanted to learn about mental health not only on a theoretical level, but also through practical activities and shared experiences. The project felt like a safe and supportive space where such an important and sensitive topic could be explored openly. Another strong motivation was my desire to meet new people from different countries. I enjoy discovering how others see the world and learning from different cultures. Connecting with people who share similar interests but come from diverse backgrounds is always inspiring for me.

2. Most important learning outcome

The most important thing I learned during the project is that mental health should be treated with the same seriousness as physical health. I realized that meaningful changes in mental well-being require time, effort, and commitment, just like exercising or maintaining a healthy diet. This includes practicing self-care, being mindful, and paying attention when something does not feel right. I plan to apply this lesson in my everyday life by creating space for activities that support my mental balance, such as meditation, reflection, or creative expression. I also want to encourage people around me to see mental health as a priority rather than something secondary.

3. Favorite activity

The activity I enjoyed the most was the art therapy session, both with the experts and with Peti. During these sessions, I felt completely free to express myself without fear of judgment. My inner child resurfaced, and for a moment I felt playful, relaxed, and carefree. It felt as if all the stress disappeared while I was creating. Even though I did not fully understand how art could function as therapy beforehand, I could clearly feel its positive impact. The activity helped me reconnect with a part of myself that I often neglect in everyday life.

4. Impact on personal and professional development

This project will help me become a better team player in my daily life. I learned the importance of patience, understanding, and empathy when working with others. For example, when people annoy me or fail to meet deadlines, I will try to respond with understanding instead of frustration. As an architecture student, teamwork is a fundamental part of both my studies and my future career. I will need to collaborate with classmates, colleagues, and various specialists. I also realized how important it is to show the same level of empathy and understanding toward future clients. Applying what I learned during this project will help me build healthier working relationships and achieve better results.

5. Overall impression of the project

Eye-opening, inspiring, and truly unique.
