🌍 Place: Bansko, Bulgaria

⛳Project description:

The project will cover different types of conflicts and in different settings and consequently ways of transforming conflicts by non-violent actions. The training course will foster constructive debate on recent conflicts in Europe and cooperation in the youth field. This is done by promoting non-violent approaches leading to actions on peace-building. Moreover, young leaders will discuss the significant role of youth participation in grass-root peace-building initiatives. By providing an overall understanding of conflict theories and providing space to analyses concrete conflicts and tensions, participants will increase their competences for solving conflict in a non-violent way. Therefore, youth workers participating in the training will gain skills in planning and intervening in these situations with transformation approaches, by implementing peace building activities and non-violent actions. The project idea was developed during a contact making event in Italy-youth workers have gathered, brainstormed and analyzed various common issues we face on a daily basis related to conflict, peace and human rights violations. Moreover, the project partners involved are from countries where so called frozen conflicts occur. The local and European media are full of news about violence in Europe and worldwide. Many acts of violence are based on prejudices that affect young people in our community, and the risk of radicalization among youth is increasing with every year. We decided to create this project because various forms of conflict and violence are often closely interconnected. This has resulted in recent trends demonstrating young people possessing xenophobic and racist attitudes that can lead to aggression and violence against other ethnicities, people of other nationalities and/or minority group. Those conflicts have been going on for years, involving young people as participants, different groups trying to drag youth into different ideologies and beliefs, which does nothing but to continue those conflicts. Thus youth work can pay a significant role in changing the process b involving youth in peace building and conflict transformation.

After the contact making event, we did an internal need analyses of the partner consortium to measure the needs of organization and youth workers in terms of understanding peace building concepts; applying human rights and peace building education; developing peace building and conflict transformation strategies; non –formal education methods and resources to work directly with youth from conflict torn regions, etc. Based on that, partners came up with concrete needs, which were formulated into project objectives and will be filled trough the project activities and involvement of youth workers who will then transfer the knowledge and thus enhance the operational capacity of the organizations involved to engage young people in conflict transformation activities.
